The Male Velociraptor Bust from Steven Spielberg's Academy Award®-winning sci-fi sequel The Lost World: Jurassic Park captures one of the franchise's most fearsome predators. On Isla Sorna, Velociraptors hunted the survivors as they ventured toward the island's dangerous interior. For The Lost World: Jurassic Park, five practical effects were created to bring the raptors to life: three full-scale animatronics (one female and two male), an animatronic head and torso, and a pair of mechanized, wearable legs for foot shots. These practical effects, combined with ILM's CGI work, were used primarily in two iconic sequences-the Long Grass massacre and the Worker Village chase. Because The Lost World: Jurassic Park featured both male and female raptors, a new and more vibrant color scheme was developed for the wild male counterparts, distinguishing them from the more monotone gray-brown females seen in the original film.
